From The Rabbi – Parshat Chayei Sarah 5779

This email is being sent to you from Brooklyn NY, where I am currently attending the international conference of Chabad emissaries. The atmosphere is electric, with over 4000  representatives from every continent and over one hundred countries. It is amazing how many people I have met who have, at some point over the past thirty years, spent time in Brisbane as part of their Rabbinical training. Brisbane is well and truly on the global Jewish radar, with many fond memories shared by so many of these dedicated communal leaders. On behalf of them all, I am conveying warm regards and blessings.

In the aftermath of the tragic news that filtered through to us last Sunday morning of the horrific Pittsburgh massacre, there is a strong resolve and spirit among the participants of the conference to intensify efforts to promote additional acts of love and kindness to illuminate the darkness of the world.

May Hashem bless and elevate the souls of the innocent victims and bring comfort and healing their grieving families.

Welcome Rabbi Shmuli Rosenbaum from Melbourne, who has kindly come to Brisbane to lead the services this Shabbat and we express out thanks to him for his dedicated service.

Last Shabbat, as part of the international Shabbat Project we enjoyed a lovely convivial communal Friday night Shabbat dinner in the Brisbane Synagogue Memorial Hall, attended by many members and friends. We extend our sincere thanks and deep appreciation to BHC board members Eddy Berkowitz for his talented culinary contribution, Leah Philips, who co-coordinated the entire event,   along with ever-generous support volunteers, Sharryn Goldman, Denise Shulman, Rosemary Solomon, Michael Arenson and Pamela Balsatagui for their great contributions.

Our inaugural Cholent cook-off was a great success, and it was unanimously decided to re-introduce our monthly Shabbat Mevarchim Cholent tradition, which will commence, December 1, Parshat Vayeshev.

BeingShabbat Mevarchim Kislev tomorrow, the Shul will be open earlier from 7.30am for those wishing to come along to reciteTehillim (psalms) prior to the service.

Shabbat Shalom and we share good news.
