From The Rabbi – Parshat Naso 5778

We extend our good wishes to the Her Majesty the Queen and her all her family for their recent Simcha (celebration), that they may enjoy much good health and nachas from the chosson and the Kallah and all the family.

For us, of course, the real celebration was our 3330th Wedding Anniversary, which we all celebrated on Shavuot in grand style

It was so wonderful to witness our beautifully decorated Shul abuzz with activity over Shavuot, with so many children in attendance for our annual kids program and Ice-cream party, creating quite a challenge to accommodate them all onto Bimah for the reading of the 10 Commandments! What a nachas!

We express our deep thanks and sincere appreciation to Mina Jaffe, Adina , TobaJaff and Natanya Meyers for organising and running the kids program.

We were extremely blessed to have three Kohanim present In Shul for Birchat Kohanim (the Priestly blessings), and among the special Shavuot highlights was our annual Late Night Learning experience, for which we extend our thanks to Professor Susan Sharfstein and Naava and Yosef Meyers for sharing their fascinating knowledge and life-stories.

Shabbat Shalom,  and we look forward to seeing you in Shul.

From The Rabbi – Parshat Bamidbar – Shavuot 5778

As we stand on the threshold of Shovuot, the anniversary of the epic moment when heaven touched earth, and Hashem revealed Himself to the Jewish people on Mt Sinai, influencing the world forever, we reflect on the unique relationship which was forged on this day between Hashem and us, when we were charged with our personal and collective mission to internalize the Torah and to bring its light and message to the world.

Please see information below regarding Shavuot services, celebrations and activities at the Brisbane Synagogue.

This past week was a proud moment for Israel and the Jewish people, as the USA moved their embassy to Yerushalayim, Jerusalem, followed closely by Guatamala and, shortly those of Paraguay and Honduras with assuredly several more to follow, formally recognizing it as the eternal capital of the Jewish people. Kol Hakavod to President Trump and his administration for their bold and courageous move, which engenders global Jewish pride and conveys a strong message of truth to the global community.

Please see interesting article of Historical interest below, entitled ‘Czech Memorial Sefer Torah # 450 (Number 3908)’, by the Brisbane Synagogue Heritage officer, Dr Michael Briner, who has been busy researching several artifacts of historical interest to our congregation.

Whether you hear ‘Yanny’ or ‘Laurel’, come and join us to hear the 10 Commandments this Sunday morning,as we will all hear the exact same words we have been hearing each year, since we heard them on Mt Sinai 3330 years ago.

We extend our deep thanks and sincere appreciation to Ibrox Nursery in Burbank, and the students of Sinai College and the UBHE Cheder for the lovely floral and greenery Shavuot decorations adorning our beautiful Synagogue. Kol Hakavod!

Shabbat Shalom, Chag Sameach and we look forward to seeing you in Shul.
