Kol Nidre Appeal

During the all the days of repentance it is customary to give charity generously and liberally as no doubt some of you have.

But on the day before Yom Kippur this is even more the case, for tzedakah is a great source of merit and serves as protection against harsh decrees.

Maimonides identifies tzedakah as an element of the teshuvah process with the Talmud asserting that tzedakah can even nullify a negative decree.

Maimonides’ position is that the tzedakah is associated with teshuvah only when it evokes the feeling of “ouch”. When the contributor can afford and feels that a sacrifice. Why is this important?

What is repentance?

It is the act of the sinner abandoning the sinful behaviour and committing in his/her heart to repeat it. There is regret for the past behaviour. (Maimonides, Mishne Torah, Laws of Repentance, 2:2)

Make you donation count, spend some time in self-reflection reach deep and feel the ”ouch”.

Donations made during Kol Nidre appeal will go to the Brisbane Hebrew Congregation Public Library. The library is aiming to raise a total of $25,000 to meet annual costs.
